I padroni di Capri

C’era una volta un piccolo lembo di terra che un bel giorno si staccò dal resto del mondo fermandosi a poche miglia di distanza, per continuare a guardare la terraferma pur restandone lontano. Dopo secoli, la sua bellezza naturale incantata perse la verginità, quando tale Augusto, nel 29 a.C., durante un viaggio di ritorno dall’Egitto, dove trionfò in battaglia, ne rimase così colpito che combinò il baratto dell’isola, cedendo in cambio Ischia. Fu il primo importante “padrone di Capri”, al quale seguì suo figlio adottivo Tiberio. Da quel tempo, i padroni di Capri non si contarono più. Barbari, inglesi, francesi, tutti vollero possedere Capri.

Quando finì il tempo dei popoli conquistatori, furono padroni di Capri contadini e pescatori, che con i frutti della terra e la ricchezza del mare poterono sopravvivere; poi i monaci certosini, che conobbero la ricchezza e l’accrebbero notevolmente grazie all’isola.

Sbarcarono gli stranieri, che qui trovarono il clima giusto per la propria salute e per la propria anima; numerosi tedeschi e inglesi vollero stabilire qui la loro dimora. I padroni di Capri divennero gli artisti, gli eccentrici, i rifugiati che in fuga dal mondo perché condannati per i loro peccati umani, politici o per la loro diversità che, però, l’isola seppe sempre accettare.

E venne la grande guerra. Per qualche anno, i padroni di Capri tornarono ad essere i veri capresi, soprattutto gli anziani, le donne e i bambini. Fu per poco perché, subito dopo, molti esuli stranieri vollero tornare a possedere la “loro” isola, cercando di ritornare agli allori passati. Furono ancora loro, sebbene in minor numero, i padroni di Capri.

Poi arrivò la dittatura, e Capri fu un piccolo paradiso per gli uomini che contavano. Di lì a poco, “l’isola che non si scorda mai” dovette scordarsi di ogni passato ed incontrare, per la seconda volta, il letargo e la diaspora che una seconda guerra provocò.

Fu ancora l’alba, e questa volta, furono gli americani i padroni di Capri. Anche per loro, l’isola significava riposo e divertimento, un’isola “bollata” nei secoli per questo suo essere tutto ed il suo contrario. Per mano degli americani, l’isola si conobbe e si presentò al mondo come un luogo non più destinato al piacere di pochi. Ma prima ancora che la massa diventasse il nuovo padrone di Capri, giunsero attori, cineasti e finanzieri. Furono loro ad avere le chiavi dell’isola, furono loro che urlarono al mondo “Capri”, attraverso le foto dei paparazzi e il gossip dei primi cronisti d’assalto. Com’era “dolce” la “vita” e grazie a loro i padroni di Capri divennero produttori, manager, attori, stilisti, molti dei quali vollero qui edificare la loro seconda casa.

Quanta eco per il mondo, molta, tanta, troppa. Tutti vollero vedere l’isola dei fortunati, e in principio non a tutti fu permesso, per soldi, ma anche per l’imbarazzo e la vergogna che albergava in coloro che ammiravano da lontano il lusso e la classe di tanti signori dalla “S” maiuscola.

Non per molto. La massa riuscì a invadere Capri, prima per un giorno, poi anche per le notti. A condurre la conquista furono le firme che hanno fatto grande la moda; una volta qui, si fecero spazio prepotentemente, riuscendo lentamente a frantumare la tradizione artigiana che era stata padrona di Capri, che aveva creato uno stile, oggi rimesso in gioco con un nuovo concetto di “fashion”.

Quando i ricchi non furono più i gentiluomini, quelli che erano nati, cresciuti ed educati nel lusso, ancora una volta Capri cambiò padrone. Prepotenti, presuntuosi e falsi signori, fermi ai bar della Piazzetta, nascosti sotto il lino bianco o dietro una bottiglia di champagne, seduti al primo tavolo di un locale notturno o stesi sul prendisole di un motoscafo veloce che se ne frega del mare, loro divennero i padroni di Capri.

Padroni di Capri divennero coloro che “usarono” il suo nome per trarne ricchezza senza conoscere ne’ amare la vera anima dell’isola; padroni di Capri furono i politici senza scrupoli che, per garantirsi squallido potere e materiale ricchezza, svendettero l’isola a quegli imprenditori e quegli interessi estranei senza vergogna. Ecco, i soldi divennero i padroni di Capri, alimentando passioni e tendenze negative come l’invidia e la gelosia, figlie dell’odio, poi la corruzione e talvolta la distruzione.

E chi sono oggi i padroni di Capri? E domani chi saranno?

Forse le generazioni passate, tutti coloro che hanno sgobbato sodo per dare un futuro ai giovani capresi? Saranno quelli che si prodigano per il bene altrui e al futuro dell’isola? Saranno quelli che onestamente lavorano in silenzio e nel rispetto di ognuno? Saranno coloro che, mossi dall’amore per questa perla del Golfo di Napoli, la studiano e ne diffondono la conoscenza? Sarà forse il suo fascino, la sua bellezza che resta incontrastata padrona, o saranno i pazzi, gli incoscienti e gli amanti del dolce far niente? Ad ognuno la risposta che crede.
