La Sterlizia (Strelitzia reginae)

Il Salotto del Mondo ha una sua esclusività anche nella ricca flora mediterranea che lo caratterizza. Nota è la varietà di fiori, sia selvatici che coltivati nei giardini delle ville esclusive oppure nelle semplici case, per le strade ed in ogni angolo di verde. Il clima particolare, mite e caldo a Sud, più fresco e ombreggiato a Nord, permette di godere di opere della natura adattate ad ogni microambiente che l’isola offre.
Nel complesso, è sicuramente uno spettacolo andare alla scoperta di tutte le varietà di fiori e piante, non solo per gli appassionati ma anche per tutti gli ospiti che amano la tranquillità infusa dalla natura stessa del Salotto del mondo.
Tra i tanti fiori, ci piace parlare della Sterlizia. Non possiamo dire che questo è un fiore tipicamente caprese, perché la sua origine è sudafricana. Esso è stato introdotto solo di recente nel bacino del Mediterraneo ottenendo ottimi riscontri, sia di diffusione naturale che di interesse commerciale. Questa musacea, infatti, ha conquistato in breve tempo le attenzioni di produttori, fioristi, consumatori.
E’ una essenza dall’aspetto cespuglioso e nel contempo elegante, con foglie coriacee di forma ovale o ellittica. I fiori sono riuniti in infiorescenze e avvolti da brattee dal caratteristico colore verde glauco. Si è ben adattata al clima mediterraneo e pertanto può essere coltivata sia in piena area, lungo le fasce costiere, con fioritura tra settembre e maggio, che in serra, facendo registrare produzioni elevate e costanti nel corso dell’anno.
E’ difficile trovarla in zone che non siano giardini o parchi privati, dove è ben gradita per il suo aspetto regale, elegante, che ben si adatta nelle proprietà di lusso dell’isola di Capri.
Gradisce temperature miti (18-20° C), terreni sufficientemente porosi e ricchi di sostanza organica e frequenti irrigazioni, avendo cura di evitare i ristagni idrici. Si giova di periodiche concimazioni, in prevalenza azotate.
Nella simbologia comunica un profondo turbamento, ma per l’occhio offre un aspetto quasi “militare”, imperioso, degno fiore dell’isola che fu scelta da due imperatori romani.
